Just Do It!
Do you remember the Nike ads from the 1990s where it said, "Just Do It!"? Well, as we venture into 2012, those of us who profess to be Christians and follow the lead of Jesus Christ, should be saying the same thing to ourselves when it comes to putting feet to our faith and demonstrating what we believe.
January is notorious for being filled with the good intentions of New Year's resolutions, but more often than not they're forgotten about by about the 3rd week of the month. At Good Ground Family Church we undertake a corporate Daniel Fast for 21 days as a way to re-center our focus and to re-establish God as our priority as we start the year. By denying our flesh and saying "no" to certain foods, like chocolate, bread, sugar, chocolate, meat, chocolate, sugar, soda, chocolate and chocolate, we begin to take charge of those areas that tend to take control in our moments of weakness. Did I mention that we fast from chocolate during this time, too? :)
The Lord has really been impressing upon me His heartbreak for those who have never heard of His great love and for those who have heard but tend to harden their hearts and be skeptical. So many people are hurting and are looking for someone to connect with that they're making bad choices that have life-long effects. As Christians entering a New Year, I'd like to encourage you to adopt the mentality of those in the Nike Corporation who possess grit, determination and passion for EVERY ONE you come in contact with on a daily basis, from the lady at the Dunkin' Donuts drive thru to the mail person at your office to your friends and family to share the love of Christ with them. Do you think the athletes Nike sponsors tell Nike "I don't feel like running, playing or winning today"? I don't think so. They fully embrace the same position we should...
JUST DO IT!
I pray you have a blessed week. Stop by the church sometime.
